The architecture of this 5-storey ASSC was inspired by the clean and sleek line of the surgical instrument, along the line of its highly specialised purpose of teaching and practicing the art of surgery with technology.
Set in a backdrop of the older HUKM, this modern building with its combination of white clinical tones and translucent glass walls allows natural light to penetrate and illuminates the internal 5-storey atrium which acts as a showcase and contrast to the surrounding older buildings.
The main lobby at Ground where this atrium is also acts as a venue for exhibition and hosting events and meals. The bunkered rear facade with smaller window apertures houses the most important function of the centre. This centre has been designed with flexibility allowing for future expansion
This centre consists of large range of flexible spaces such as “Dry Labs” that fits 30 for training of simulation-based techniques, 2 operating theatres where one is with 10 operating tables for teaching and a state of the art 120 pax lecture hall fully equipped with the high-definition audio visual and recording system allowing real time teleconferencing with other centres of excellence and operation theatre from around the globe.
This purposed built centre has set a new milestone of a new medical building typology.
