These pair of 3-storey integrated semi-smart schools, under design and build contract, located at Kulim Hi-Tech Park, Kedah whilst designed to comply specifically with the requirements of the State Ministry of Education but intentionally different in choices of materials used and its architecture from the standard conventional ‘JKR’ schools.
On arrival, each are greeted by an entrance drop-off set in a 3-storey curved wall which stands stupendously with tall round columns supporting its deep roof eaves, a common denominator of both schools. Courtyard design were adopted for both where 4 rectangular blocks surround an assembly square.
As the school is mainly naturally ventilated, the classroom blocks are single loaded with deep strutted overhangs, an architectural feature and faces the courtyard for added protection from wind driven rain.
The traditional clock tower, now missing in most, was reintroduced to the secondary school and also faces the primary school to serve both.
Another distinct feature of the schools were the three-layered roof canteens which adds another architectural dimension.
Being away from convention, these schools had set a new benchmark for schools up north to follow.
