Troika Kota Bharu, a 36-storey mixed development project comprising of 338 residential and 22 retail units sits on a tight 1.4-acre site at the tip of the Golden Triangle. Being the tallest building, this new modern Islamic icon with clean, fluid and sensual lines had redefined Kota Bharu’s urban landscape fabric and skyline.
The Municipality mandates Islamic features be incorporated into the design and this development demonstrates how contemporary interpretation of high-rise Islamic Architecture coexisting harmoniously with the surrounding low traditional architecture, adding colour, contrast and vibrancy to the city.
Various Islamic metaphors were contemporarily reinterpreted such as the three-dimensional “open” Islamic arches crowning the building as inspired by Du’a the gesture of a praying hands. Rotated arches inspired by the Kelantanese ‘wau’, forming openings around the podium infilled with tessellated star screens. The fluidity of “Praying Robe” inspiring the curvy sun-shading hoods providing protection against the harsh tropical monsoon weather. These sensual curves are further expressed in the interior and landscape design with “curved” infinity panoramic pool and a multipurpose hall clothed in intricate Islamic motif external skin that overhangs beyond the podium complementing contextually the Islamic patterns of adjacent Hotel Perdana. All curated to form this captivating architecture in the city.
